Shockwave Therapy in Neutral Bay

shockwave therapy neutral bay

Get moving again with Chattanooga Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) delivered by experienced physiotherapists. Ideal for stubborn tendon pain and calcific shoulder – with a clear rehab plan so your progress continues between sessions.

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) uses controlled acoustic waves to stimulate blood flow and tissue repair in areas that have struggled to heal. In clinic, we use the Chattanooga device to target the painful area while you remain comfortably positioned. Treatment typically lasts 10–15 minutes as part of a standard physio consultation.

How we use it at L&C:

  1. Assess the underlying cause and confirm ESWT is appropriate.
  2. Treat with focused/shallow applicators as indicated (intensity is adjustable and kept tolerable).
  3. Rehab with graded loading so tissue adapts and the results stick.

Conditions we commonly treat with Shockwave

  • Plantar fasciitis / heel pain
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Tennis / golfer’s elbow (lateral/medial elbow tendinopathy)
  • Calcific rotator cuff tendinopathy (shoulder)
  • Gluteal tendinopathy / GTPS (hip)
  • Patellar tendinopathy (knee)

Your physiotherapist will advise if ESWT is appropriate for your specific condition.

What to expect

  • Session length: Typically 15 minutes (assessment + ESWT + exercise).
  • Sensation: You’ll feel a tapping/pulsing that can be intense but should be tolerable; we adjust settings to suit you.
  • After‑effects: Temporary ache/redness are common for 24–48 hours; avoid high‑load activities during this window.
  • Frequency: Often once a week for 3–6 sessions, combined with targeted rehab.
  • Results: Many people notice change within a few sessions, especially when they follow their loading plan.

Is Shockwave Therapy right for me?

ESWT is not suitable for everyone. We avoid it over open wounds, infection, tumours, areas with poor sensation, or active growth plates, and we use caution with bleeding disorders/anticoagulants, pregnancy (over treatment area) and certain medical devices. Your physio will screen you and liaise with your GP if needed.

Your first appointment (step‑by‑step)

  1. History & assessment to confirm diagnosis and red flags.
  2. Discuss options and expected time frames.
  3. Shockwave treatment (if appropriate) + exercise coaching.
  4. Personalised home plan with dos & don’ts for the week.
  5. Review plan (typically weekly at first) to progress load and monitor response.

FAQs (for patients & referrers)

Does it hurt?
You’ll feel a strong tapping sensation. We keep it tolerable and can adjust intensity at any time.

How many sessions will I need?
Often 3–6 sessions, one week apart, alongside a graded loading program.

Can I exercise after treatment?
Yes – stick to light/low‑impact for 24–48 hours, then resume your plan as advised.

Is it safe?
For most people when appropriately screened. We don’t use ESWT over growth plates, open wounds, infection or suspected fractures.

Is it covered by private health/Medicare?
Sessions are billed as physiotherapy; private health rebates may apply depending on your extras cover. Medicare CDM/EPC rebates may apply if you have a valid GP plan for physiotherapy.
